LB Independant - Latin American Art Goes Under the Gavel

May 01, 2010 11:37:58AM

Taking a fund-raising cue typical of museums but unusual for retail galleries, gallerist Carla Tesak Arzente will auction off on May 8 works by artists represented by her Salt Fine Art, a gallery specializing in Latin American art.

Exquisite paintings and sculptures that usually retail between $700 (Octavio Arosemena’s lovely minimalist watercolor) and $88,000 (Ana Mercedes Hoyo’s impressive bronze sculpture of a basket of tropical fruit on a pedestal) can be acquired for roughly half price, plus tax and a 15 percent buyer’s premium surcharge.
